Theft of Motor Vehicle - Carlton Close - Borehamwood

Dear Resident

 

Between a theft of a vehicle occurred in Carlton Close, Borehamwood. The victim called police to report their car has been stolen.

The car was parked outside a garage that victim rents from the council, away from their home address.

The garages are gated and padlocked. The gates are still locked shut with no damage to the padlock, however the vehicle is gone.

The vehicle doesn't currently run as it has been taken apart by the victim

Tips to prevent vehicle crime:

  • Ensure you lock doors and shut windows/sunroof when leaving your vehicle unattended.
  • Always remove keys from the ignition when you are not with the vehicle
  • When parking, remember to set your immobiliser or alarm or use an approved steering lock or gear lever clamp.
  • Never leave valuables in your vehicle – not even in the glove box or boot – and keep all possessions out of sight – even coats, sunglasses and carrier bags.
  • Be aware of your keys.  Don’t leave them visible on a windowsill or near to your front door, where they could be “hooked” through the letterbox or a keyless signal can be received by relay devices.  
  • If you have a keyless entry car use a signal blocking bag and consider using additional trackers, steering wheel locks or ghost immobilisers.
  • Store car ownership documents at home, not in your car.
